Existing Transmission System

In the map of Cyprus provided below, the existing Transmission Network is illustrated. The portion of the Transmission Network that is not under the effective control of the Republic of Cyprus (occupied areas of Cyprus) is indicated in red.

General Information: The Transmission System (TS) constitutes the interconnection between the principal power generation facilities and the Distribution Network of the electricity system of Cyprus. The TS infrastructure comprises Overhead Transmission Lines, High Voltage Underground Cables, Step-Down Transformers, switching arrangements, and ancillary High Voltage equipment located within Transmission Substations (SS). Under normal operating conditions, the TS network (Overhead Lines and Underground Cables) operates at a nominal High Voltage level of 132 kV, with certain isolated sections operating at 66 kV. The 66 kV Overhead Lines and associated equipment are being progressively replaced by 132 kV installations, with the ultimate objective of their complete decommissioning.

The High Voltage Transmission Network interconnects the principal power generation facilities with the SS, which are strategically situated at locations characterized by significant concentrations of load demand or power generation. Each SS incorporates a number of Step-Down Transformers designed to convert electrical power to medium voltage levels (11 kV or 22 kV), subsequently transferred to the Distribution Network for the supply of end-user demand. The principal power generation nodes within the TS at 132 kV or 66 kV include the three conventional Power Stations of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) as well as the large-scale Wind Farms. The Transmission System data are presented in the following tables:
